LinkedIn Introduced New Feature Name Pronunciation Audio Record

This feature is simple (Facebook has made a similar choice with digital pronunciation for years) but is very welcome on a website like LinkedIn. it is designed to reduce embarrassing or unprofessional errors when speaking to contacts for the first time: which is even more important when a pandemic means that face-to-face meetings are limited.

“Everyone, including myself, makes mistakes when saying other people’s names,” Joseph Acoune, LinkedIn’s product manager who helped develop this feature, told the Wall Street Journal. “I personally experienced this with my Nigerian middle name – there is a 99% chance that someone won’t speak it correctly on the first try.”

People have reported seeing feature tests for a while now, but LinkedIn said in a blog post this week that it is now offering the option to all of its 690 million users this month.

However, one of the questions the feature calls for is whether people will abuse the ability to put a voice recording for 10 seconds of their choice on their profile. After all, LinkedIn is home to some types of business very enthusiastic, always ready, and always able to have its own virtues. Let’s hope the speech guides will not become CVs for 10 seconds.
